The GPMC is always seeking qualified candidates for membership. Candidates should be of reasonably sound mind but with an excessive concern for the uses and abuses of the English language. Take this following brief questionnaire to determine whether you are eligible:
Have you told the checker in the express lane at the grocery store that the sign should say, "Six or fewer items" instead of "Six or less items"?
Do you cringe when Captain Picard says, "to boldly go . . ."?
Have you ever ended a meeting by giving everyone a tally of their subject-verb agreement failures?
Have you broken up with someone because he or she habitually wrote "thru" instead of "through"?
Do you stop corresponding with people who say that email messages need not follow the customary rules of spelling or syntax?
Have you interrupted someone's story to tell him that "lay" is a transitive verb and therefore must have an object?
Do you ever brag about how many words you can list that all are derived from the same Latin root? (My favorite are "vert" words: invert, divert, convert, etc. If you can't make it to fifteen, you probably aren't GPMC material.)
If you believe you are fit for membership, send me your email address (and a writing sample), and our team of experts will give you all the consideration you are due.
